Catching Up

Wow! Has summer flown by or what? I can't believe that this is my last full week at home with my boys. I have thoroughly enjoyed this summer and am so sad to see it come to an end. I always have a hard time transitioning back. I am trying to soak up these last few days with them. Here are some fun highlights from the past month.

Visitors!
My niece and nephew came to stay with us for 5 days last week while my SIL, Amber, and her husband went to Cabo. We had a wonderful time with Elizabeth and Wyatt. They are such well mannered children and a tremendous help with the boys! I asked them throughout the week if they wanted to live with us permanently.:o)
On one of the days they were here, Creighton and I took them to the children's museum with Luke and our 9 year old neighbor, Gabe. The kids had a great time. Luke especially enjoyed the face painting!:o)

The Beach!
We also made a day trip to the beach with my parents in July. Luke enjoyed jumping in the waves with Daddy while Mommy, Mimi, and Sam hung out in the sand.

Cereal!
Sam started rice cereal and baby food about a month ago. It took him about a week to really get the hang of it, but boy does he eat like a champ these days. I think he's trying to catch up with big brother!:o)

Sewing 101

My dear husband bought me a sewing machine about 4 years ago. I had talked about wanting to learn how to sew, but when he actually bought me the machine I became a little (okay, maybe a lot:o) intimidated and never even opened the box. About a month ago my grandmother, who is an excellent seamstress and quilter- and someone whom I have always admired for her sewing abilities, bought a new sewing machine. She encouraged me to bring over mine and we would figure it out together. I went over to her house and she gave me a quick tutorial. Since then I have delved into a few small projects. The first was a little table runner for a small bathroom cabinet that I recently painted black this summer. I thought a white table runner would give it a little "pop".:o)

I then attempted something a little more difficult. I bought a long window panel (that matches the other curtains in my kitchen) for my small kitchen window. I knew that I wanted to make a window treatment that I found on this blog, but the window panel was WAY too big, so . . .

I cut the panel down and hemmed the edges, then added a little ribbon to make the faux roman shade and. . .

TA DA!! . . .my new faux roman shade to match. . .

my other window treatments in the kitchen.:o)
